“The main goal for this project was to create an inviting and functional layout by expanding the kitchen’s tight footprint, modernizing the finishes and ultimately creating a space built for entertaining friends and family,” Kokiv said. “Every detail from the redesign of the floor plan to the edging on the countertops was carefully chosen to make this happen.”
The result is stunning. Kokiv made a complete layout change by tearing down walls, opening up the doorway to the kitchen, and extending the kitchen into what had been an adjoining home office and closet space. The addition of a larger island than what was originally there introduced an attractive and functional new arrangement for extra workspace and seating.
Like many customers who feel the time is right to invest in a major kitchen overhaul, the Greely couple took the opportunity to have Westend incorporate modern, highefficiency appliances into their new design. Kokiv ensured they would be pleased by her sensible layout of the new appliances in a space trimmed out with Deslaurier stained maple Northfield cabinets with crown mouldings, Ella Luxury series Cambria quartz countertops with bevelled edgings, Sarana 4×24-inch “wood look” ceramic floor tiles, random-strip Euro glass mosaic backsplash tiles, and a Ladylux Café Pro Dual higharc faucet in a SuperSteel finish from Grohe. Kokiv also created a bar area with a small wine fridge conveniently next to the island, and added an appliance garage on top of the bar counter to keep clutter to a minimum.
To improve the efficiency of the countertop work areas and manage the overall kitchen lighting, Kokiv added undercabinet LEDs and dimmable ceiling pot lights. Westend also installed a trio of attractive island pendant lights purchased separately by the customers. The flexibility of the lighting suite gives the homeowners whatever they want in terms of strong work light, or relaxing mood lighting when entertaining.
