Two sinks are better than one in the master bathroom of this elegant renovation

Two sinks in the master bathroom are definitely better than one. Jason and Megan realized that every day they lived with a single sink and vanity in their en suite bathroom.
“We were tripping each other every morning as we tried to get out of the door for work,” says Megan, adding that the inconvenience was particularly noticeable as they had moved from a townhouse with a double vanity in the master bathroom to a large family home, now 20 years old, with a single vanity and a huge soaker tub (largely unused) taking up space.
While the morning rush was not as much of an issue since the couple, an indemnity underwriter and a lawyer, has been working from home during the COVID-19 era, the pandemic dictated the timing of their just-completed bathroom renovation, says Jason.
“We had nowhere else to spend our money,” he jokes. “So, we decided this was the ideal time for the renovation.”
“Going from builder’s grade to the quality custom product we got from Westend Bath and Kitchen has made a big difference,” he says.
The upgraded, spacious bathroom offers a his-andhers effect with double vanities, an expanded shower and much more storage. Elegant white custom cabinets are enhanced by black matte handles. Sink and shower faucets, along with accessories, follow through in matte black, while countertops and the shower bench cap are quartz. The new pale grey flooring extends through the walk-in closets, which are now equipped with additional drawers and shelving. In addition, a stylish barn door now hangs in front of the closet.
“It ’s magazine quality,” says Jason of the new high-contrast en suite bathroom, noting that the back of the house comprising the master bedroom, bathroom and closet now flows far more effectively.
“We’ ll appreciate everything even more when we go back to working outside the house,” says Megan. “It’s just what we wanted.”
“The goal was to reorganize the space and make it better suited to the customers’ needs,” says designer Loretta Blanchard, who has been with Westend Bath and Kitchen for more than three years. “They were looking to modernize the bathroom and get better organization of their closets, so we designed custom cabinetry. We took out the big podium tub, added a second vanity, moved a wall and centred the doors to create truly separate his and hers spaces.
“It’s rewarding seeing the final product and fun trying to get into the clients’ heads initially to find out what they are thinking of and then giving them what they want,” she adds.
“The fact that Westend is a one-stop shop is worth a lot, particularly during COVID-19,” says Jason, noting that he also appreciated the contractor’s pleasant, respectful manner and willingness to answer questions while working in the house. “The selection of all components is good, and I loved that we didn’t have to go to more than one place.”
